Alice Marie Arriaga's BIO

 

Alice Arriaga was born in El Paso, Texas.  Ms. Arriaga started dancing at the age of five. With 27 years of experience Ms. Arriaga has come a long way.

 

She was a member of the Rosa Guerrero International Ballet Folklorico Company for four years, studying under the direction of Prof. Arturo Guerrero.  Arturo Guerrero founded the Ballet Folklorico of El Paso in 1989 and Alice became one of the six charter members.  Arriaga studied and assisted Mr. Guerrero for thirteen years, teaching students five to forty years of age.

       Mrs. Arriaga is a graduate of Universidad de Autonoma de Chihuahua Bellas Artes. She has a Degree form Mexico as a Mexican dance teacher and dancer of danza folklorica. While attending Bellas Artes Alice was chosen as Bellas Artes Student Body Representative in 1999. Mrs. Arriaga has studied all facets of Folklorico dance with Maestro Zamarripa of Colima Mexico, Professor Antonio Rubio, Chihuahua, Mexico, Professor Rodolfo Hernandez and various teachers from Mexico.  Also while attending the Universidad de Bellas Artes Alice danced professionally with the dance company and toured through out Mexico including Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico, D. F, San Luis Potosi, Mexico, and Albuquerque, New Mexico. 

           Relocating to Dallas Texas, Mrs Arriaga was program coordinator for Folklorico 2001 and 2002 Festival of Dallas, Texas and was the academy director/teacher for Ollimpaxqui Ballet Academy. Alice Arriaga has also instructed after school programs through out El Paso and Dallas, Texas. For five years Mrs. Arriaga Directed the dance department at Diamond Hill Jarvis High School in Fort Worth Texas and was recognized for being an outstanding teacher and placing at the North Texas Competition by the school Board of Fort Worth Independent School District in 2003. While at Diamond Hill High School Mrs. Arriaga had the opportunity to direct the Lone Star Competition “Nationals”. In 2005 Alice Arriaga was recognized by Oaklahoma City for her artistic talent as a guest Miestra for the Tierra de Corazon Competition and in 2007 Mrs. Arriaga recived an award of recognition by the Presidencia Municipal de Rosales, Chihuahua. For support and participation in the Grito of Independence.

 Mrs Alice Arriaga has had the opportunity to travel with her company and perform at Walt Disney World, Rosales, Chihuahua; El Paso, Texas; Bastrop Texas; and Oklahoma City.  With her new found passion of salsa dancing has led her to study under local dance instructors through out Dallas, TX.  Mrs. Arriaga along with her husband/dance partner Alex Medina has performed through out the Dallas Metroplex. Mrs. Alice Arriaga is the founder and artistic director of the Ballet Folklorico of Dallas and founded the Ballet Folklorico of Dallas in 2002 believing that children can be taught a sense of honor and pride of their heritage while learning and growing together. Alice Marie Arriaga hopes to continue educating and passing on the history of  “Our Raices” for future generations.
