The Ballet Folklorico of Dallas was founded in 2002 under the direction of Alice Arriaga. The groups consist of students from 4 to adult. The talented and energetic dancers of the Ballet Folklorico of Dallas are committed to promotion cultural enrichment, awareness and to educate future generations on Mexican Folklorico. The group shows our youth discipline, respect, self-esteem and how to learn and grow together.
BFOD strives to be completely traditional to each folklorico region, practicing the dance steps that are the accepted dance norms in Mexico. Ms. Arriaga’s choreography, traditional movements, patterns and vibrant costumes that are indigenous to the regions are a certainty to give the audience an enjoyable performance. Costumes are brought from Mexico or made locally with careful observance to keep their originality.
The Ballet Folklorico of Dallas has appeared in frequent locations such as The State Fair of Texas, Euless Arbor Daze Festival, Ice House Cultural Center yearly events, Farmers Market Food Festival and Imagination Celebration. In 2005 & 2008 the Ballet Folklorico was selected to perform for celebration of America’s Musical Heritage at Walt Disney World and Epcot. In 2007 the BFOD perform in Rosales Chihuahua, Mexico for the celebration of 16th of Sept.
The Ballet Folklorico of Dallas has competed in several competitions through out the years. Such as the North Texas Festival Competition winning several trophies through 2002-2005. Participated in the Tierra de Corazon Competition in Oklahoma 2006 and competed at the Bastrop Competition 2007 winning 2nd and 3rd.
